The Jaguars select Cyprien

It took longer than I expected. But after watching the first round of players get selected ahead of him former FIU stud safety Johnathan Cyprien is finally now a Jaguar.

With the selection Cyprien is now FIU Football's highest drafted player to date.

Cyprien now surpasses T.Y. Hilton who previously held that honor. The Indianapolis Colts selected Hilton in the third round in last April's draft, which surpassed former FIU linebacker Antwan Barnes, who was drafted by the Baltimore Ravens in the fifth round in 2007.

The late Chandler Williams was also selected in the 2007 draft. Williams was picked by the Minnesota Vikings in the seventh round. Anthony Gaitor was the third FIU player drafted into the NFL when the Tampa Bay Buccaneers took him in the seventh round of the 2011 draft.

The next former FIU football player taken should be DE / LB Tourek Williams.

Both players should make an immediate impact on special teams and on certain packages on defense during their rookie season.

PantherRage.com will be doing a follow up interview with Cyprien as soon as he gets a chance.

Please stay tuned.....
