Palmer: 'Signing with FIU a dream come true'

As Early Signing Day rolled around for the Class of 2018 on December 20th FIU had a stacked recruiting class that was to sign. One of those recruits is Sterling Palmer.

Palmer currently attends Fork Union Military Academy and will be a Three-Star JUCO transfer in January. He brings ample talent at the Tight End position standing at 6’6” and 220 pounds. Having attended a Military Academy in Fork Union, as well as one prior to Fork Union, Palmer expects a smooth transition to FIU, stating,

“Discipline, hard work ethic, and attention to detail was instilled in me while being at Fork Union Military Academy, so I’ll be more prepared entering college than the normal student athlete.”

The addition of these traits in Palmer, adds even more talent to an already extremely talented FIU offense. That is exactly what Palmer hopes to do. He feels that having played Wide Receiver in High School gives him an advantage in the receiving aspect, as well as creates a mismatch between linebackers and himself. With the combination of his athletic talent and his discipline on the field he hopes to help FIU win.

Not only does Palmer fit FIU’s needs and wants, but it also meets Palmer’s desires. “I felt wanted as soon as I got there.” stated Palmer. The campus as well as the environment he received from the student-life drew Palmer to FIU. The school was a great fit for Palmer academically and athletically, “They have my major and it’s a great program. From a football standpoint it exceeded my expectations, and I like what is going on there and the direction they are moving in.” He stated. “FIU stood out because I could visualize myself being there. If you can’t envision yourself being there, is that the best place for you? It has to be home or else you won’t enjoy your time there.” Responded Palmer when asked about what stood out most to him.

Signing with FIU, to Palmer, was a dream come true. Palmer had a simple signing day as he signed in the comfort of his home with his mother and sisters. “The environment was filled with smiles and positive energy when I signed my National Letter of Intent. Palmer wanted to start working immediately therefore he took advantage of his opportunity to sign and got to work.
