WR Ivan Thomas Recruiting Update

Ivan Thomas, three star wide receiver on Miami Palmetto Senior High School’s football team, went on his unofficial visit at FIU on June 17th.

The 2018 recruit had an astounding total of 34 receptions, 542 receiving yards, and 9 receiving touchdowns last year. Thomas’s stepdad, Sam Young, accompanied the 6-4 stud on his visit last month. “The visit was great,” said Young. “They had a very nice campus and it was much bigger than I thought.”

The coaching staff did a great job in welcoming the pair on campus and showing them what they have to offer. Thomas and Young felt as though Tim Harris Jr. and the staff were very nice and gave some great information about the football program and the school’s academics.

About a month later on July 14th, Ivan Thomas committed to FIU with only a year left in his high school career. Topping the star wide receiver’s priority list is early playing time and a solid academic program. However, Sam Young says that he feels confident that his step-son could come in as a freshman and compete for a starting spot.

“I feel like Butch Davis has a great plan to build the program up to be able to compete with the power house schools in about 3 years,” said Young.

With Ivan Thomas committed to becoming a Panther after graduation, it should be interesting to see how he builds up his game and secure himself that early playing time playing time on FIU’s roster.
